Biography

Founding member of the firm, Alain Gutkin has more than thirty-five years of practice in business law as well as in civil and commercial litigation. Before founding the firm, he spent his first five years of practice as a civil and commercial litigator with one of Montréal's major law firm, before spending the next 26 years as co-managing partner of Laframboise Gutkin. His clientele is comprised mostly of businessmen and businesswomen in command of their own business.

Alain has a hybrid practice.

Alain acts as an attorney in commercial litigation files, namely in real estate, construction law and shareholders dispute. His services are also retained to act as arbitrator in the context of civil and commercial disputes.

An important portion of his practice consists of accompanying his clients in all aspects of real estate developments, from the letter of intent , to setting up partnerships, negotiating financing, the development, the construction, the marketing, and either the sale or the management of the asset post-stabilization, Alain also negotiates commercial leases of all natures. 

Alain is also involved in various commercial transactions. He assists and advises his clients in mergers, acquisitions and sales of businesses. He also actively participates in the establishment and progression of various franchise networks. 

In litigation, Alain is an efficient drafter and a redoubtable litigator whose reputation before the courts and tribunals is firmly established.  His extensive and broad knowledge of the law and his thirty-five years of experience give him a perspective only few lawyers possess and are a significant advantage  at every step of the judicial process.

Biography

Jacques Vincent joined Laframboise Gutkin in January 2018 as a partner. Prior to that, Jacques was a partner and head of the commercial and corporate sector for more than 20 years at the boutique firm LPLV Avocats.

With 30 years of experience in business law, he brings depth to GVD's business law team.

He acts daily as a trusted advisor to his clients in various aspects of their activities.  He advises small and medium-sized businesses and supports them in their growth and development and in the achievement of their objectives.

Jacques and his team work in various sectors of activity related to corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate financing, commercial contracts, real estate transactions and corporate reorganizations.

His exceptional rigour and pragmatic spirit allow him to negotiate complex cases on behalf of his clients in addition to offering effective and innovative solutions.

A philanthropist, Jacques has served on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations over the past 25 years. He still serves as a board member of AlterGo (an organization promoting universal accessibility for people with functional disabilities) and as corporate secretary of the Montreal international musical Competition and the Fondation CMIM.

Biography

Marie-Claude Dumas started her career in our firm in 2002, and was promoted to partnership in 2012.

Marie-Claude leads a highly diversified practice mainly oriented in civil, commercial, real estate, construction and estate litigation. She has extensive experience in residential and commercial lease disputes, as well as in shareholders disputes. She also has experience in family law. Marie-Claude frequently pleads before the Quebec Courts of all instances.

Moreover, Marie-Claude specializes in the drafting of wills and in estate planning, in files involving protective supervision plans for persons of full age, and in negotiating and drafting commercial contracts.

Marie-Claude is appreciated by her clients for her personalized service and listening skills. Even though she does not fear challenges and is a respected and eloquent litigator, she keeps a proper perspective on the issues at stake, which brings her to offer judicious advice, namely by taking into account alternative dispute resolution methods.

Nicolas joined our team in 2019. He practices mainly in corporate and transactional law, and in commercial litigation.

Since 2015, Nicolas has been involved on various boards of directors. These experiences allowed him to develop a concrete results-oriented approach. Cordial and hard-working, Nicolas will make sure to find a solution that suits you, both for your business or in litigation. 

Biography

Régina has been a lawyer with our team since 2021, after completing her law degree at the University of Ottawa and completing her Stage du Barreau with a firm specializing in family litigation. Prior to completing her law studies, Régina worked as a litigation assistant and paralegal in a major national law firm. Régina has also worked as a research assistant in international arbitrations and has provided pro bono legal services to a Montreal-based women’s fashion company.

Regina practices primarily in civil, commercial, real estate and estate litigation.

Passionate about her work, Régina builds relationships based on trust and results.

Biography

Laurie has been part of our team since she became a lawyer in 2023. During her university studies, she was involved in pro bono legal education mandates and the defence of fundamental human rights. She works mainly in civil, commercial, real estate, estate and construction litigation. With considerable experience in competitive sports, Laurie is a go-getter who knows how to overcome the challenges that she encounters. She will listen to you and support you in finding a solution to your legal issues.
